https://scienceforthekids.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/what-is-evolution/ https://kids.kiddle.co/Evolution https://science.howstuffworks.com/life/evolution/evolution1.htm Please complete questions 1-9 in the handout I provided. Fun times with both classes today. They were pretty engaged with the experiment that we did to determine which types of finches would have survived on which islands.
Please find a digital copy of the handout here. Good Copy of the Traits paragraph is due next class on Tuesday. Here is a video that will help explain Competition, Evolution, Traits, etc. You will need to answer the 3 questions at the top of the 3-column T-chart What is evolution? What is a common ancestor? What is natural selection? You can do this by answering all three questions individually or you can try to weave the ideas into a cohesive paragraph that answers each of them.
We started by defining what a theory is and how it applies to the Big Idea that Evolution by Natural Selection provides and explanation for the diversity and survival of things. Student then worked to continue to define evolution, natural selection and common ancestors. Students that were unable to get the definition of natural selection down, please reference the video below at the 7:46 mark of the video. I would also suggest giving the video another view thinking about how common descent implies that there must have been a common ancestor. |
