Math 7: Students completed a quiz today
Math 6: Pg 55 Socials: We continued with a presentation on Iran today. As a class we continued to refine and collaborate on how presentation should be conducted and the level of research that should go into them. Please see the result of our discussion below. The afternoon was spent in an assembly put together by the classes of Mr. Rickard and Ms. Hansen with the help of Mrs. Inglis. Also, a dramatic performance by grade 6/7 students in Ms. Mitchell's help drive home the importance of anti-bullying on Pink Shirt Day.

Math 7:
Students handed in their assignments and there is a quiz tomorrow. Math 6: Pg 248-253 Socials: Students continued to work on their group projects. They are to be completed and presented on Friday. Presentation: Interesting and concerning presentation on the quantity of mercury under the permafrost in Alaska. Design Challenge: Students have moved on to the construction phase of their sailboats. I have been to a couple of workshops through ENG Cite and wanted to share a link that has an opportunity for girls in grades 4-7 to attend one of their workshops. If you are interested in learning more, please click here. Math 7: If your child still has work to do on their project, tonight is the last night as they must be in tomorrow. Math 6: Pg. 241 Science: Students handed in their labs and we further explored the concept of weathering, both mechanical and chemical. Careers: Students reflected on the status of their goals. LA: Students peer-edited their 2nd drafts. Design Challenge: Materials need to be here tomorrow as we will begin building. Current Events: We had two very good presentations today on important topics the first being on Brexit, the causes, concerns and timeline. The other presentation was on the #metoo movement and the concerns regarding sexual harassment and sexual violence. Thanks to our two presenters for the great topics. Math 7:
Project is due Monday. Your child may tell you that is it not due until Tuesday. Do not believe them. Science: Good copy of the science experiment lab is due. Students can find the questions below. Design Challenge: Best Possible Solution is due Monday. Students will begin building on Tuesday and should have supplies in and be ready to build that day. Language Arts: Second draft is due Monday. Social Studies: Students continued to work on projects. They are due on Wednesday. ***I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to all those parents who have completed my survey. Students worked on their water park projects. Projects are due Mon Feb 26th. This is a large project and students should not procrastinate on this. Math 6: End of page 238 Science: Students completed sediment experiment and will need to complete rough draft of the write up for Thursday. See questions below. Socials: Students continue to work on their group projects and current event presentations continued. Design Challenge: Students are required to present their "Three Possible Solutions" tomorrow as the last of the research sections were completed today. Best Possible Solution will be due Monday. Students are continuing to work on their water park projects that are due next Monday. There is a significant amount of work that needs to go into these beside just the design and drawing. Students make sure you are thinking about how long this project is going to take. Art: Student are working on their art projects. As these have student images, I can not share them on the site without your explicit permission. Parents, if you are ok with me sharing an image of the work with your child in it, please let me know so that they can be featured in a future post. Socials: Students continue to work on the Early Humans project and we began our Current Events presentations. Design Challenge: A number of students did outstanding work while many were very close to completing this stage. Students who have not passed this stage need to redo their work and show it to me before they can move on to the next step. Three possible solutions is due Thursday. Buddies: We worked with our buddy class to demonstrate design challenge work by creating standing letters. Please see below. Math 7: Students are beginning their water park project. Due date is set for February 26th. More details to come. Ask your child about their plans.
Design Challenge: Research is due Monday. Students will need to submit research to progress to next stage of design challenge. Socials: Students were introduced to our current events assignment that will be ongoing throughout the remainder of the year. French: Students continued to work on their skits. They are encourage to practice their dialogue at home as they will only have one more session working in groups before they present. Grade 7s went to Carson Graham to check out the MYP Projects. My personal highlights were some of the fine arts, a student who used motion capture technology to improve their athletic performance and an electric generator from rain water. Congrats to the grade 10 students on their work and hopefully this inspired some of our grade 7 students. Math 7: Pg. 151 Q 1-4
Math 6: Pg. 217-221 Language Arts: Students received their work from Run Sheep, Run today and also received their new assignment for On the Sidewalk Bleeding. Students will be writing a 3 paragraph persuasive essay on one of 3 questions that were provided following discussions about the short story. 1. What is the theme of the story? 2. What is the importance of the main conflict in the story? 3. What role does symbolism have and why is it important to the story? Students should have an outline of which question they are going to answer in their essay and how they are going to answer it. Socials: Students began working on their group projects which will be ready by Feb. 28th and presented on March 1st. Ask your child about which homonid group they will presenting. Math 7: Pg. 145-147 Q. 2,4,9-11 Language Arts: Vocab Quiz Wed Design Challenge: Rough Draft of research due Tuesday - bullet points are ok Grade 7s have a form that is going home today regarding dismissal from Carson Graham on Feb 15th. Please return as soon as possible. If students do not return the form they may not be able to attend the MYP project displays. Art: Student work on the Mandalas is fastastic. Each student has been very impressive as they pushed themselves in their artistic work. |
