Math 6 Mitchell: Pg. 22 #1-3, 5 We started off the day with a very moving and powerful assembly with a visit from Mike Downie and Charles Joseph that discussed the work that has been happening at our school regarding residential schools. It was a great way to start the day. Students are working on some great, beautiful art projects. Literature Circles continue. Our theme is hardship and tied in nicely with the assembly today. Math 7: They had a quiz today....ask them how it went.
Socials: Menus are due on Tuesday! LA: Origin story is due tomorrow. The Ending is due on Tuesday. Art: We started a new art project looking at silhouettes. Lit Circles: The theme of the Lit Circles program is hardship. Students are to try and make meaningful connections to the novels and the concept of hardship. Please ask your child which book they chose as their first of at least 3 novels they will be reading to find out what it was about the novel that made them want to choose it. As people may know, from time to time, I like to throw a burn out there, particularly when someone throws one my way. I saw a burn online and someone responded with this.....bonus points to anyone who gets why this made me laugh (and no, it's not those awesome sunglasses) Oh yeeeeaaaaahhhhh! Lit Circles: Students have selected their first books for this multi-book, multi-week, multi-assignment project. The overarching theme to all of these novels is hardship.
Orphan Origins: Final draft is due Thursday Orphan Ending: Final draft is due Tuesday, April 23rd Socials: Ancient Menu is due Tuesday, April 23rd Math 7: We had a quiz today. Ask your child how it went.
Language Arts: We just finished reading Orphan Island and the students are working on a couple of projects for this. Creation Myth: The students have read some different creation myths from Ancient Egypt around the world and are writing a creation myth that will be based on what the kids on the Island may have thought created their island, the environment, the boat, and perhaps even the children themselves. First draft due Monday The True Ending: Students are writing two pages, double-spaced, on what happened after the ending of Orphan Island. First draft due Wednesday. Lit Circles: To learn the process of Literature Circles (some have done this with Mr. Rickard) we are doing this with Orphan Island so that students can familiarize themselves with process. Assignments for this for Orphan Island are due Friday. Socials: Students will be creating a menu for an ancient restaurant in either the Egyptian or Inca empire. A draft of this will be due on Monday, April 15th. Have a great weekend! |
