So many students showed up looking great for their interviews! I had such a fun time asking them some hard questions, that they handled very well, and I am sure we can expect to see all of them working in no time (and parents, maybe they will even pick up the tab!) Great work class! I am very proud of all your effort on this project. Here are some pictures from the day.

Careers: Don't forget to complete the sheet for the interview with your parents. Someone, whose name won't be mentioned, left their sheet with a half eaten banana on it when we went outside for the end of the day.
Math 7: Complete the worksheet, if you have questions, post them here and people can try to help answer them. I would expect a quiz some time next week. Socials: We are beginning our joint class project with Mr. Rickard's class. Remember, you need to have that sheet signed by your parents. No signature, no hockey. Design Challenge: I have seen some good progress on the cars so far. We will do our first round of testing next Friday. Please keep up with the written part of the assignment as you will have a great deal to do if you leave it all until the end. Have a great weekend! Careers: This is a multi-step project that is intended to prepare students well in advance for what they will likely be doing in just a few years.
Part 1: By next Tuesday, students will be expected to go to any place where there is a possibility that they might be able to get their first job. I have asked them to request an application form. In the event that they are told they are too young, they are allowed to mention that this is for the purpose of a school project. I have suggested ideas such as, fast-food restaurants and retail locations (perhaps a trip to the mall) as good starting points. Part 2 will require them to write a quick reflection about this experience. The intention is for them to do this on their own or with a friend. Please parents do not provide them with an application, the purpose is for them to actually go out and do this. Part 3: They will be required to bring the applications in and fill these out. Part 4: We have been looking at samples of first resumes, students will be creating their first resume. Part 5: some students will be selected for an "interview" with me. For those that have an interview, we will be role-playing this in front of the class and I would encourage them to show up for this interview as they would for an actual interview. |
