Hi All,
Very hectic week for me this week. Haven't had a chance to post. There is a large project for Math 7 that is due at the end of the period tomorrow. There is also a socials essay that is due on the last day before Spring Break that we will be working on in class. The planning sheet is due tomorrow. We have some exciting Science stuff coming our way! We have a couple of art projects for the grade 7s and one for the grade 6s that will be starting up next week. Oh....and there has been a new post in the CFHL!

Hey Guys. Didn't get a chance to post before I left so I didn't get to upload that thing for the student who asked me to upload it. Sorry Ash Williams, I had to make the ferry.
Socials: quiz tomorrow. Remember, focus on one area, for each society, go from there. Remember, you have to convince me of your opinion. Think persuasively. Science: we will go over the variables sheet tomorrow. Math 6 Mitchell: I believe you have a quiz tomorrow, can someone please confirm. Math 7: Graphs, try to get them done for tomorrow but if they are not, please demonstrate significant progress on them. Question: in what moment in life, inside or outside of school, have you demonstrated your best critical thinking? At the beginning of the day, we spent some time discussing and developing the structure and purpose of a persuasive essay. Math 7: students have collected data and most have finished crunching the numbers. Students began working on their reports. Interestingly, some began exploring the use of Microsoft Excel to do this and even began creating graphs with it. Great stuff! Math 6 Mitchell: There is a quiz on Tuesday the 26th. Math 6 Rickard: Project is to be signed for tomorrow.
Math 7: Students are continuing to work on their projects. Art: students are working on covers and illustrations for their short stories that they are currently working on. LA: Students completed peer edits of their second drafts today. Final copy is due on Friday, though I am happy to accept any that come in early. Socials: students have completed their research into the Inca. Very disappointed in how people left the class today. Chairs not stacked, garbage all over the place. Food left on tables. This is a place that we all have to share and it should be expected that it will get messy but it is not something that should be left for anyone else to clean up. The janitor has a job to do but some of this stuff is on us. Instead, I am left cleaning up after you. Not impressed! Socials: We worked on the their Inca research. They will be due on Tuesday at the end of the day.
Art: Students are working on covers for their short stories. Language Arts: Second draft is due on Tuesday. Please take care when doing your revisions. USE SPELLCHECK, please, please, please. Math 7: We have just started a new data analysis project. Students have a small amount of work to do for this over the weekend. Guess who came by for a visit at the end of the bake sale! **** Hey everybody, it looks like a students' phone may have slipped into someone else's bag. Could you please take a look in your bag this evening and see if you have his phone and leave a comment. ****
Orphan Island: “Startled, she reached out and grabbed for the crab. She darted forward and gripped the beast by its shell, then raised it into the air, claws waving furiously. When she released the animal again and sent it off in Sam’s direction, she gave a shout so loud she surprised everyone, including herself. “Aaaaagh!” she raged into the air. Everyone stopped for a moment, to look at her. “Did it pinch you?” asked Sam. “Are you okay?” Jinny just shook her head. “Nope,” she said, looking the other way. “Not a bit.” Please answer in 3-5 sentences: Why is Jinny so frustrated about this whole experience? Is it just one thing or do you think there is more to it? Excerpt From: Laurel Snyder. “Orphan Island.” iBooks. Math 7: Students received their Math quizzes back today. Art: Students will be designing cover pages for their Language Arts short stories that they are working on. Language Arts: please make sure you have two copies of your story printed out for tomorrow. We will be doing peer editing in triads. Socials: Deadline has been moved to Tuesday for this research assignment. Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I decided that going out and playing in the snow was more important. Sometimes we have to make decisions between work and play and sometimes, play should win. Core Competency: We discussed the Critical Thinking competency and explore the idea of competing interests.
Math 7: There was a worksheet assigned that is intended to help students prepare for the quiz on Monday. Socials: There is a new assignment that will require independent research on the part of the students. There are a number of resources that are available in the classroom and students will have time in class to work on these projects. Additionally, Mr. Rickard has compiled an excellent series of resources that you can access through his website here. Language Arts: The quiz has been moved to Monday and for the Run Sheep, Run story, students will be required to complete a first draft for Tuesday. Hey Guys. Sorry I am later with the post than I would have liked.
