Bionic: Students wrote down definitions of "ethical" and "moral" in their planners today. They will need to use these for the question that is coming at the bottom.
Math 7: There is a quiz on Monday. See photo blow for details. Homework is pg. 24 q. 6-9. This afternoon, on such a beautiful day, I decided that rather and stay inside and do presentations we take advantage of the weather and do some outdoor learning. Students were required to imagine and create their own park. They will be writing a paragraph about this park. Topic may include: - why people would come to the park. - the purpose of the park - three main features or attractions of the park A later piece in creative writing will be done on a story that takes place in this park. I will post pictures of the park tonight or tomorrow. Grade 7 girls - Science World STEM workshop. Parents, don't miss this opportunity. Click here for a free STEM workshop for your daughters. Question: Based on the definitions we developed of "ethical" and "moral", do you think that it is either ethical or moral for the doctors to be conducting experimental surgery on Mira (Bionic)? Why? Does her age, the fact that she is a teenager influence whether or not you think this is either ethical or moral? If you want to get some help on this, ask your parents. Give them our definition of moral and ethical and tell them about the events of the story. See what they have to say about it and whether or not they would have approved as Mira's mom did. Good luck and have a great weekend.

About Me presentations started today. There was some excellent work put in by those who presented today.
Socials: Homework from yesterday is due tomorrow! Math 7: Pg 23 Q 1-4 is due tomorrow. We are working on patterns using term number and term. There will be a quiz on Monday. Details tomorrow. Art: Many students are wrapping up with their Graffiti Name Art and I am looking forward to our next project. Collaboration Time for Teachers: We reviewed some of the research regarding the importance of Social Emotional Learning, the beneficial impact that it has on students, both socially and academically, and how that ties into the system of Zones of Regulation. Question: Today's question is not really a question, but I have a task for you. Find the definition of ethical and copy this into your planner for discussion tomorrow. Thanks Health: Students were put into pairs that will lead a 10-15 minute stretching session first thing in the morning, 4 days a week. Later, these groups will have to create a poster that demonstrates proper technique of the stretch, the muscle group affected, the benefit of stretching that muscle group and the potential negative impacts of a lack of flexibility.
Math 7: Students looked at equations with variables. Homework is pg. 18 Q. 4-10. Art: Students continued to work on their name graffiti art. Some who have finished have started to work on another for a pet or family member. Socials: We discussed the importance of studying history and students have a sheet with questions that needs to be completed for Thursday. About Me: PowerPoint projects are due tomorrow and presentations will begin with those who volunteer. Note for those who check the website. If you are of the first willing to go first on the presentation and you can tell me the place where the image of the different strata were on the Socials homework, there may be something in it for you. Language Arts: We reviewed our worksheet on Topic Sentences and Organizing Paragraphs. Students did some excellent work in this regard and I was pleased that most were eager to contribute their sentences and answers.
Math 7: Ms. Friesen led today's lesson on communicating our thinking in Math. This is a very important aspect that many who are successful in Math struggle with. Students are to complete pg. 18 questions 1-3. Design Challenge: Students received their work. We reviewed how the process was to be done and students should better understand expectations going forward. Assembly: We were visited by a Haida women who is a lawyer and presented a couple of traditional songs and told a legend about the Raven. Science: we reviewed the online quiz they were to have completed over the weekend on Force and Motion. My apologies for the gap in posting, parents. As many of you may know, I hurt my back rather badly the other day, was out for a couple of days, and continue to struggle. I am hoping to be back to 100% before too long and don't plan to miss anymore school for a awhile.
LA: We worked on identifying and creating topic sentences and went through the initial process of looking at the structure of a paragraph. While this will be review for many, there are always those who will benefit from the lesson and the review. There is a worksheet that needs to be completed by Monday. Math 7: we continued to look at patterns in division and students have a worksheet that should be completed by Monday. About Me Projects: I have pushed back the due date until Wednesday because of my absence. While some have already "finished" I am encouraging them to use this as an opportunity to continue to improve their work and understand how "finishing" early can be a real benefit. Science: Students reviewed a website and are to complete the quiz. The website can be found by clicking here. Terry Fox Run: Most students did an excellent job on the Terry Fox Run today and we had a great discussion about the documentary they watched yesterday called "Into the Wind" which, for me, has always been very inspirational and heartbreaking. Have a great weekend! Friday....first full week is in the bag. YEAH!!!!
So, we have a few things coming up that are due. Forms, last call for forms....please don't make me wait until after Monday :( Social Studies: Maps are due Monday Read pages 24-26 including the questions for Monday About Me projects will be due on Friday. Presentations may start that day....be ready. Math will begin on Monday. Design Challenge is due on Monday. Have it in your duotang, ready to hand in at the start of the day. Have a great weekend! With the late evening yesterday, I am afraid I didn't get a chance to post. Today the students began with a mapping exercise. Students quickly discovered how much they knew (or didn't know) about world geography. While this may seem very old school but I think that it is incredibly important for students to know where things are happening in the world. Language Arts: students worked through a couple of sheets on punctuation and comma use. Some of this is fairly rudimentary for them but it is a good refresher after a summer off and many of them found themselves asking questions about where commas should be placed.
Science: We will be briefly reviewing Forces and Motion as this is a good intro to many of the Design Challenges we will be doing over the course of the year. Click here for a great read on Force and Motion that will be the basis of what we will be looking at. Design Challenge: They came, they tested, Design Challenge Earthquake conquered. I have a few pictures I would like to share but I have to wait until all forms are in and accounted for. If you haven't been able to get the forms done, please have them for tomorrow if possible. Question: In 4-5 sentences, respond to the following questions depending on how you answered the previous question about the ship of the Theseus. Option A: If you said that the ship was no longer Theseus' ship after the wood and other materials had been replaced, at what point does it not longer become his ship? 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%, 100% and why do you choose that percentage? Option B: If you said that it was still Theseus' ship, suppose that each of the removed pieces were stored in a warehouse, and after the century, technology develops to cure their rotting and enable them to be put back together to make a ship. Is this "reconstructed" ship the original ship? And if so, is the restored ship in the harbour still the original ship too? Social Studies/Language Arts: Students are working on their About Me projects. For those who were in my class last year, this has been changed a bit to make sure that they are having to come up with some new information. Yesterday we created a mind map of things that students might want to ask me if they were trying to find out about me. Language Arts: Students also have a worksheet on Capitalization that needs to be finished for tomorrow. If they are unable to complete their work due to some challenges with the work, that is fine. We will be going over it tomorrow. I only ask that they put in their best effort.
Question: Answer the following question in 4-5 sentences. Be prepared to present your answer first thing tomorrow. Suppose that the famous ship sailed by the hero Theseus in a great battle has been kept in a harbour as a museum piece. As the years go by some of the wooden parts begin to rot and are replaced by new ones. After a century or so, all of the parts have been replaced. Is the "restored" ship still the same object as the original? Hi parents and students,
I am excited to be starting a new year with a great group of kids. This tab is where you will find information about homework, assignments and sometimes a recap of the day. |
