We began our day discussing our short story which led us into an interesting discussion about the dangers of drugs. While this wasn't the plan for the morning, I felt that it was an important topic to discuss. I would encourage parents to continue these discussions at home. While it is a sad and frightening topic, I believe that it is a discussion we must not shy away from with our children. As a parent of a 21-month old, these discussions are still some ways off for me and I am thankful for that but I have already noticed how quickly time flies and so, it won't be long until I have to have the same conversation with him.
After recess I left with the choir to accompany them to Centennial Theatre. Those grade 7s not in choir watched a documentary and discussed it with Mr. Rickard and the Grade 6s spent time with Ms. Rickard. After lunch we continued our work on our design challenge. Ask your student how their boat is coming along. ***** Forms for the Music/Dance Festival tomorrow for those students who have yet to hand it in. It must be in as soon as they arrive at school tomorrow. Bright shirts are to be worn for the performance. While I do have some, if you have your own, it would be a help.

Math 7: Students are developing questions for larger polling which will be used to make circle graphs and do analysis with. Language Arts: We read a new short story "Lose Now, Pay Later" along with two short movies "Alma" and "Street Musician". Students have questions that are due Tuesday but I would suggest that they get started on these as they may not have the opportunity to watch the videos again to truly analyze them. Design Challenge: Students continued to work on their boats. See some images below. Science:
Questions to our lab are due on Monday. I have taken an image to share the questions to help students in case they didn't take a textbook home to use. Math 7: Pgs. 163-164 Q1-5 Language Arts: We reviewed another draft by students and good copy will be due Monday Presentations: Great presentations on illegal trade of endangered species and the state of education for women in some parts of the world. Great topic choices by our presenters today. Science: Some great work by our students yesterday in their experiment "Colouring the Rock Cycle" as they used crayons to emulate the patterns in the rock cycle. See some images below. Lab write-up with questions is due Monday. Apparently I was negligent in sharing one of the posters from our Socials presentations earlier in the week. Sorry group.
Math 7: Circle graphs with questions are due tomorrow.
Science: Lab set up to be done for tomorrow. Students need to find an example of a paradox. Language Arts: third draft due Thursday. Design Challenge: we will be working on this Thursday. Students will need to bring their best effort as testing will be on Monday. Write ups will be due Thursday the 15th. Note to parents: almost half the class did not have their planners signed today. This impacts their mark in careers and, in general, I would say this impacts their overall academic performance. Please ensure you are not only signing their planner but making sure they have completed any work. Especially if they are telling you they have no homework. Math 7: Students created surveys last week and created raw data from their surveys, they are now doing circle graphs that will be used to compare results of their survey responses with grade 6 and grade 7 students. Presentation: We had another great student led Current Events presentation regarding tariffs and possible changes to free trade. A fantastic pick for a topic as it could have real impact for all of us. Socials: Students got prepared for and presented their group projects to Ms. Carmichael's and Ms. Bevan's classes today. I was highly impressed with the overall work which featured coding and the use of makey-makey's, Kahoot, a puppet show, a skeleton, an interactive game and even a rap song. Well done Division 2!!! Math 7: students are taking raw data and creating circle graphs.
